What Ducey's 3 New ABOR Picks Could Mean For Arizona Universities

Gov. Doug Ducey recently made three new appointments to the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR), the body that sets university tuition prices, including one notable pick: Jessica Pacheco, a former longtime lobbyist for APS.

The governor also appointed Bob Herbold, a former Microsoft executive who leads a philanthropic foundation, and Northern Arizona University student Rachel Kanyur as the next student regent on the board.

Pacheco and Herbold are filling vacancies left by Kathryn Hackett King, who Ducey recently appointed to the state Supreme Court, and Karrin Taylor Robson, who is running to succeed Ducey as governor.

The Show spoke more about the new appointments — and what they will mean for the state’s university system — with Alison Steinbach, who covers higher education for the Arizona Republic.
