Arizona Monsoon Activity Helps Extinguish Major Wildfires

Apart from bringing much-needed water to the state, recent monsoon activity has also helped to extinguish major wildfires.

Dolores Garcia with the Bureau of Land Management in Arizona said those fires that are burning are not sizeable.

“We don’t have any large wildfires above 100 acres. Right now, we're in a situation where moisture is widespread. Many of the wildfires we’re getting are lightning-caused and manageable,” she said.

Garcia added the negative byproduct of rain is flooding and contributing to the growth of foliage that could stimulate wildfires next season.
