'Life Is A Highway' Among Winning Arizona Freeway Safety Signs

If you’re traveling on Arizona freeways Saturday, you may notice some new signs. Arizona’s Department of Transportation just posted the winning messages in its annual safety contest.

The first message is a play on the 1991 song, “Life is a Highway.” It reads:

Life is a highway

I wanna ride it

With a seatbelt on

The other message appearing on digital overhead boards reads:

Miss your exit?

It’s okay.

We made more ahead.

The authors of the winning messages did not publicly share their names. ADOT said it received more than 6,000 votes this year. Since launching the safety message contest five years ago, ADOT said it’s received more than 8,000 entries.

"It's encouraging to know that thousands of people also care about safety and voted to see these messages on signs across the state," ADOT Director John Halikowski said in a statement. "With states across the country posting safety messages, it only gets more difficult to create a one-of-a-kind message. This year’s messages are unique and sure to make an impact on drivers.
