Eviction Moratorium Lifted, Aid Money Still Available

Federal lawmakers did not stop the national eviction moratorium from ending over the weekend.

A poverty-fighting organization named Wildfire is one of the groups partnered with the city of Phoenix to help people who are behind on rent and utilities due to the pandemic.

Executive Director Cynthia Zwick said Arizonans should keep applying for emergency rental assistance because the state still has roughly $475 million left.

“That money will be available for a number of months. And there is new money coming into the state that will be released later this year,” Zwick said

The size of the relief fund, complexity of the program and the time it takes to process applications are why there’s so much money left, Zwick said.
