Close to 2,000 new cases of COVID-19 were reported Aug. 3 by the state health department, and 30 more deaths were recorded as cases continue to rise in Arizona and across the country.

What is the endgame?

One theory we’re hearing from public health experts is that we are headed toward a world in which COVID-19 is endemic and no longer a pandemic.

That means, for one, that this new coronavirus is here to stay, but it also could mean it won’t be the life-disrupting force that it has been for the last year-and-a-half.

For more on what it all could mean, The Show spoke with Dr. Joe Gerald with the University of Arizona.

The conversation started by asking him to define terms for us: pandemic vs. endemic.
