The Arizona Department of Health Services is reporting a fifth straight day of 2,000 or more new cases of COVID-19 as disease-related hospitalizations rise around the state.
The state’s coronavirus dashboard reported 2,639 new cases Sunday after adding 2,653 cases on Saturday.
Health officials are attributing the rise in cases to the delta variant, as well as lagging vaccination rates.
About 53% of Arizonans have received one dose of a vaccine, but only about 46% of the state has been fully vaccinated, ranking Arizona 30th in state population fully vaccinated.
As of Saturday, 1,358 COVID-19 patients were occupying inpatient beds, up almost 500 in the past two weeks.
