David Amsellem's Double Life: Watercolor Artist, Health Care Worker Amid A Pandemic

Watercolors are notoriously finicky when it comes to artistic mediums. They bleed, they smear, they’re tough to control.

And for David Amsellem, they’ve become a mountain to climb for the last several decades as he’s learned how to master them.

Amsellem is a physical therapist by trade — one who found himself with a lot of time to work on his passion for painting in the last year as the pandemic kept us all at home. Now he is debuting his first solo show at Scottsdale’s Walter Art Gallerywhere visitors can see his process on display.

His work is both realistic at the same time as it's abstract, as he paints scenes from everyday life and his work.

The Show's Lauren Gilger met Amsellem at the gallery recently to see the new exhibit. She spoke with him about his work and his double life as both artist and health care worker amid a pandemic.
