The Arizona Cardinals are set to play their first preseason game Friday against the Dallas Cowboys.
Multiple players have been exposed to COVID-19 throughout their training camp, which, under new National Football League rules, may affect their win-loss record this season.
A new NFL rule states that if a game cannot be rescheduled due to a COVID-19 outbreak among unvaccinated players, the team with the outbreak will be credited with a loss.
The Cardinals currently have five players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, meaning they have come into close contact with someone with coronavirus. The team has had 13 different players on the list this summer, including nine players at one time.
On July 16, the Associated Press reported the Cardinals were one of the last teams to reach a 50% vaccination rate. But, as of July 29, head coach Kliff Kingsbury confirmed reports that more than 90% of the team had been fully vaccinated.
