Late last week, the U.S. Census Bureau released the official figures on the nation’s population and which states gained or lost residents.
Census results are meaningful in multiple ways, including determining how much federal funding particular areas will receive.
From a more specifically political standpoint, the census acts as a starting line for the redistricting race.
Thirteen states, including Arizona, have an independent commission to determine how districts are drawn — while eight others have panels with nonpartisan or bipartisan requirements.
