Several cities across Arizona have announced efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, in an effort to curb the impact of climate change.
Those efforts tend to revolve around what and how often we drive, fly and otherwise get around, among other things. But, Jonathan Bean says this conversation also needs to include the buildings we’re in.
Bean is an assistant professor in the architecture program at the University of Arizona, and he has a joint appointment at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
He says if we’re going to get to a zero carbon future by 2050, we need to cut emissions from buildings in half by 2030.
The Show spoke with Bean to learn how we can accomplish this, and why he calls buildings the “elephant in the room” when it comes to meeting climate change goals.
