A major Amazon warehouse has started operations in the Sonoran capital Hermosillo.
The massive, 500,000-square-foot facility is the first of its kind in this part of Mexico. And as of last week it’s up and running, according to a tweet from incoming Sonoran Gov. Alfonso Durazo. He praised the facility for bringing “hundreds” of jobs to the city and a significant economic impact to the state.

The warehouse will ease package delivery in northern Mexico, as well as allowing same-day shipping for Prime customers in Hermosillo and next-day shipping for in several major Sonoran cities, including the border cities of San Luis Rio Colorado and Nogales, according to a state release from March announcing the project.
