Police say a bus driver for Chandler Unified School District has been arrested for suspected aggravated DUI.
The incident occurred with nine high school students on the bus.
Police say Bryan Diel ran a red light and ignored multiple requests to pull over.
Chandler Police Sgt. Jason McClimans says police are awaiting the results of a Drug Recognition Test before charging Diel with the DUI, a Class 6 felony.
“We believe it was some sort of narcotic or prescription drugs, and that’s the reason why the Drug Recognition Testing was performed,” said McClimans.
After being processed for the suspected offense, Diel was brought to a local hospital by the Chandler Fire Department.
The district says Diel has been placed on administrative leave. Students on that route have been assigned a new driver while the investigation takes place.
