Phoenix was at the epicenter of the problems surrounding Veterans Affairs hospitals and how veterans were being cared for.

One of the revelations that emerged in 2014 was that many veterans died while waiting for care, because it was taking nearly four months to see a provider.

Improvements have been made since then, but the pandemic introduced new challenges for health care for veterans. And soldiers returning from Iraq, Afghanistan and other places may need assistance when it comes to housing and employment — among other things.

Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough was in Phoenix on Aug. 30, and The Show spoke with him to learn how the pandemic has affected caring for veterans.
