Arizona Pediatrician: 'Kids Are Getting Sicker From COVID-19'

Medical experts in the state say there’s an increase in younger Arizonans being infected with COVID-19 and that more of those patients are being admitted to the hospital than before.

In fact, Dr. Jason Vargas said he’s worried about “an alarming increase” in the proportion of cases and hospitalizations in young adults and children.

Kids younger than 12 are not yet eligible to be vaccinated, and many schools are not requiring masks — despite a court ruling that a law banning mask mandates in schools does not take effect until later this month.

Vargas is a pediatrician in Glendale and is president of the Arizona chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The Show spoke with him to learn what he is seeing in his practice right now.
