Phoenix's Black Theatre Troupe Celebrating 50th Anniversary — A Year Later

Black Theatre Troupe kicks off its season Sept. 10 with a performance of "Sistas: The Musical." And it’s an important year for the company — its 50th anniversary season.

It was supposed to happen last year, but the pandemic forced Black Theatre Troupe to cancel its performances.

In response to COVID-19, the group has invested in live streaming and virtual performances and is avoiding concessions, among other things.

To take a look back and a look forward on the occasion of this anniversary, The Show spoke with David Hemphill, executive director of the Black Theatre Troupe.
