Sonora’s Governor Elect Tests Positive For COVID-19

After traveling around the state this week, Sonora’s governor elect has now tested positive for COVID-19, just days before he is set to take office.

Gov.-elect Alfonso Durazo announced he tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday night after spending two days visiting to cities around the state to discuss port expansions.

He said on social media that he has only mild symptoms and will quarantine, continuing to work virtually.

During his trip this week, Durazo was pictured meeting with large groups of people and holding press conferences in closed spaces, during which he removed his face mask.

He is set to take office on Sept.  13. For now it’s unclear if the positive test will impact plans for his inauguration.
