Arizonans with marks for possession of up to two and a half ounces of marijuana, six plants or less, and cannabis paraphernalia can have them deleted from their criminal record.
Nearly two months after this part of Prop. 207 took effect, Maricopa County Superior Court is getting an average of 650 requests per week.
Petitions to erase a marijuana arrest or conviction have to be filed in the same court system they originally went through.
The case number, if charged, the arresting police department, and a description of the offense are some of the minimum requirements to file for expungement.
Paula Collins is administrator of the Law Library Resource Center at Maricopa County Superior Court.
“The more information they have, the more complete the petition, the better,” she said.
The Law Library has request forms with instructions and a checklist available online.
“We do provide some limited forms of assistance in terms of just looking to make sure that everything in the packet has been filled out,” said Collins.
So far roughly 3,700 people have had their marijuana arrest or conviction taken off their record via Maricopa County Superior Court.
