The Arizona Game and Fish Department reported that a mountain lion was shot and mortally wounded in a residential area of Tucson last week.
On Sept. 10, the department recovered the mountain lion from an offshoot of the Pantano wash near midtown Tucson. It had been shot in the chest.
A Game and Fish spokesperson says the mountain lion was examined by department biologists, who found it was unlikely to survive. It was then humanely euthanized.
After an investigation, officials said Friday the shooting was ruled an act of self-defense.
