2011 Book On Phoenix's Lack Of Sustainability Still Resonates Today

The megadrought in the Southwest continues — even with a wet monsoon season here in Arizona.

Our state’s allocation of Colorado River water is being cut. Maricopa County is the fastest-growing county in the United States.

All of those would indicate an area with significant sustainability challenges, regardless of planning and innovation that has been going on in Arizona.

Ten years ago, New York University professor Andrew Ross had a book published called "Bird on Fire: Lessons from the World’s Least Sustainable City." The title itself was controversial and thought-provoking, and Ross faced criticism. But the ideas and opinions in his book are just as relevant — if not more so — today.

The Show spoke with Ross to discuss "Bird on Fire" and how he expected readers to react.
