The Ethical Issue Of Journalists Running For Political Offices

Journalists don’t often become politicians — or at least not successful ones.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is one of the exceptions to that rule. But the next election cycle may add to that, as New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof seriously considers a gubernatorial run in his native state of Oregon.

And here in Arizona, former television news anchor Kari Lake is considered by some to be the frontrunner for the Republican gubernatorial nomination.

To learn what propels journalists toward politics, The Show spoke with Jon Allsop of Columbia Journalism Review, who recently wrote a column addressing whether journalists should run for office.
