Most of us have gotten calls telling us that a non-existent auto warranty is about to expire, and we have to take care of it immediately. Or that the IRS is coming for us over a problem with our taxes, unless we press 1 to talk to someone right away.
Those kinds of robocalls should be on the decline, and Sept. 28 marks a deadline in that effort: It’s the day by which many U.S. phone companies need to take steps to crack down on robocalls.
But a new report from the Arizona PIRG Education Fund finds that most providers have not yet installed the caller ID systems needed to stop illegal robocalls.
