U.S. Department of Education approves Arizona education plan to distribute $862 million

The U.S. Department of Education distributed $862 million to Arizona on Thursday morning to support K-12 schools and students.

The money came from federal rescue plans. Two thirds of the American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funds had been given to Arizona.

Now, the Department has approved the state’s plan for the funds and distributed the remaining third. The Arizona Department of Education received a total of $2.5 billion.

In a release, the U.S. Department of Education said the approval “will ensure funds are available to the state and local districts to safely support and maintain in-person instructions.”
