The massive Ford plant in neighboring Sonora is reportedly shutting down again due to shortages.
On Monday and Tuesday, the sprawling facility, one of the state’s most important private employers, will pause operations in response to unspecified shortages, according to a reportin Reuters.
A two-week shutdown in May was spurred by the global shortage of semiconductors. The company and a local union representative did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The plant manufactures the new Bronco Sport SUV and, more recently, the Maverick compact truck. Production of the Bronco peaked in March at over 18,000 units, with just over 13,000 rolling off the line in September, according to Mexican data. Since June, Maverick production has risen sharply to roughly 5600 units last month, according to a recent Ford sales report.
