Tucson police chief will have his first confirmation hearing to become the nation's CBP commissioner

Tucson’s Police Chief Chris Magnus will finally get a confirmation hearing to head the nation’s Customs and Border Protection agency.

Magnus is scheduled to  appear before the U.S. Senate’s Finance Committee next Tuesday. President Joe Biden nominated Magnus last spring.

A top Senate Democrat delayed the hearing because he wanted to learn more details about the Homeland Security Department’s role in last summer’s Black Lives Matter protests in the Pacific Northwest.

Magnus has recently pushed back against Gov. Doug Ducey’s remarks blaming what he calls a border crisis for a rise in homicides in Tucson.
