A replacement has been chosen for former state Rep. Raquel Terán, who moved to the Arizona Senate after another lawmaker quit due to accusations of child molestation.
The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has appointed a member of a local school board to fill the seat.
The Board chose Democrat Christian Solorio to be the Arizona House Representative for District 30.
Supervisor Steve Gallardo nominated Solorio, describing him to the Board as a true success story who was born and raised in the area of Phoenix he’ll represent.
“He and his family had to share an apartment with two other families in order to have a place to live,” said Gallardo.
Solorio became an architect.
His term on the Alhambra Schools Governing Board runs through next year.
The seat Solorio fills opened in the chain reaction caused by Tony Navarrete’s resignation from the Legislature following his arrest on suspicion of sex crimes.
Today I appointed Christian Solorio for the LD30 House of Representatives seat. Christian truly embodies the American Success story; from humble beginnings to realizing his dream to become an Architect. His passion, service and advocacy will serve the district well. pic.twitter.com/DubSneR6t4
