Republican Rep. Becky Nutt resigns from Arizona House

A state Republican who represents rural southeastern Arizona has resigned.

Becky Nutt is leaving for unstated “personal reasons,” according to the spokesperson for Republican House members.

Nutt made the announcement Thursday in a letter to House Speaker Rusty Bowers and her resignation will be effective Monday.

She’s served in the Legislature since 2017 in a district that represents all or part of Cochise, Greenlee, Graham and Pima counties.

Nutt had served as the House majority whip and is the outgoing chair of the House Rules and Ethics Committee.

Nutt’s resignation means the Cochise County Board of Supervisors will pick a replacement to serve the remainder of her two-year term, which runs through 2022.
