Arizona is welcoming thousands of Afghan refugees. For a Valley doctor, their stories are familiar

Arizona is becoming home to a new group of refugees — those fleeing from Afghanistan as the Taliban took over following the U.S.’s withdrawal. In fact, Arizona will receive more than 1,600 Afghan refugees — one of the highest numbers in the country.

And for one Valley doctor who’s now treating those patients as they arrive, their stories hit close to home.

Dr. Baharak Tabarsi was 10 years old at the time, and she remembers it vividly. The Show spoke with her more about that experience and what it means to her to be able to help the refugees coming now from the same region.
