Dozens of migrants were found in several houses in the border city of Nogales, Sonora.
In all, 52 Guatemalans, a Honduran and a Mexican were found detained against their will by local and state police in three Nogales homes earlier this week. Ten were minors, accordingto the Sonoran Public Safety office.
The operation was spurred by a plea for help written by one of those detained, and passed to someone who then called 911. One arrest was made.
The Sonoran newspaper Imparcial reportedthat the migrants had been held for ransom for two weeks before being freed, but a public safety representative was unable to confirm that. Kidnapping is a major risk faced by migrants along the border.
