The Maricopa County Community College District will comply with a federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate, it announced to its employees in a Monday email.
MCCCD has more than 12,000 active employees including faculty, staff, student workers, full-time, part-time and temporary employees. The mandate will also impact MCCCD volunteers.
President Joe Biden has issued executive orders that require all employees of federal contractors to receive COVID-19 vaccinations, or request and be approved for religious or medical exemptions.
MCCCD works with a variety of federal agencies and departments, including the Department of Defense and various military branches, Veterans Affairs, Homeland Security, and the National Science Foundation and said these contracts and programs allow it to provide career training and degree opportunities to members of the military and veterans.
Employees of federal contractors are required to be in compliance by Dec. 8, but MCCCD said its employees have additional time while its federal contracts are renewed. So instead, MCCCD employees will need to be vaccinated or have applied for an accommodation by Jan. 7.
