Biden infrastructure plan to grant $147 million to improve San Luis port of entry

$147 million from the Biden administration’s infrastructure plan will go toward improvements for the port of entry in San Luis, Arizona.

San Luis is a hot spot for cross-border travel, according to Mayor Gerardo Sanchez. To reduce traffic congestion, one of the improvements will be to add lanes to the port of entry.

Sanchez says there are currently seven lanes, and the funds will allow an increase to 16 lanes. He says the state estimates up to $10 million of commerce passes through the port on a daily basis.

“I know people say ‘Well, it’s $147 million.’ It’s a small investment in what is going to be generated or what is generated from our ports,” said Sanchez.

Sanchez says Mexico will also be investing to expand their port of entry to improve accessibility from both sides of the border.
