President Joe Biden has spent much of the week talking up the massive, $1.2 trillion infrastructure package that finally passed Congress over the weekend. It had been stalled in the House of Representatives since Democrats passed it in the Senate in August.
The bill is expansive — hundreds of billions of dollars to things like bridges, roads, mass transit, airports and seaports. It also includes tens of billions into improvements to broadband and the electric grid — and more to build the infrastructure needed to charge electric vehicles.
It’s been called a bipartisan bill, but just 13 House Republicans joined Democrats to vote for it.
In Arizona, one Republican who pushed for its passage is Mesa Mayor John Giles. Giles has said — in everything from an op-ed in the Mesa Tribune to his Twitter feed — that this kind of investment in infrastructure can have a profound impact on local economies.
How does he know that? He told The Show he’s seen it before with big projects in Mesa.
