How analyzing social media can predict events like the attack on the U.S. Capitol

Social media is uniquely able to connect people of similar viewpoints in an extremely rapid fashion. That can lead to upbeat, positive arrangements or to scary, visceral events like the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Now, a group of researchers — including Candace Rondeaux of Future Frontlines and Arizona State University's School of Politics and Global Studies — are working together to gather data and information in the social media realm to help anticipate similar events. That realm includes Facebook, Twitter and Parler.

The Show spoke with Rondeaux to discuss her efforts and theories related to social media.
