Phoenix to require 14,000 city employees to be fully vaccinated by Jan. 18

In an email sent to more than 14,000 employees late Thursday, the city of Phoenix announced its COVID-19 vaccine mandate.

A Phoenix spokesperson told KJZZ News that the city is considered a federal contractor because it works closely with the federal government. That’s why Phoenix will follow the president’s executive order that requires all federal contractors to be fully vaccinated by Jan. 18, 2022.

The email said employees who are not in compliance will be subject to progressive discipline up to and including termination. To be considered for medical or religious exemptions, employees must submit documentation by Dec. 31.

Booster doses are not required at this time, and the city continues to provide free vaccines.
