Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport's hospitality employees voted Thursday to authorize a strike to receive better wages, health care benefits and retirement plans.
No date has been chosen, but 97% of employees of HMS Host, the largest concessionaire at Sky Harbor, voted to strike.
Rachele Smith is with Unite Here Local 11, the union representing the workers. She says employees want to serve travelers, but negotiations have gone on for nearly four years with no new contract.
"One of the reasons why workers haven’t decided on a date yet is they want to give the chance to HMS Host, now that they've voted and authorized the strike, they want to give the chance to HMS Host to come back to the table," said Smith.
HMS Host employs hundreds of workers in more than two dozen restaurants and coffee shops at Sky Harbor.
Unite Here Local 11 says the strike would affect travelers arriving and departing in Terminals 3 and 4.
