Palo Verde Generating Station will test its outdoor warning sirens Wednesday.
The drill will test several sirens within a 10-mile radius of the nuclear plant, which is located about 55 miles west of Phoenix.
The sirens will sound at noon and again at 12:30 p.m.
The county will also test a wireless emergency alert. Ron Coleman of the Maricopa County Department of Emergency Management said the equipment is tested throughout the year, and a number of agencies are involved.
“We constantly drill and train for these kinds of events, and that way if an actual event were to occur, folks are ready to respond, folks know how to respond. And so the siren testing is simply another test along the way to make sure that things are operational,” Coleman said.
Palo Verde is one of the largest power generating stations in the United States.
