While the new omicron coronavirus variant has not yet been seen in Arizona, Pima County is monitoring for it.
Not much is known about the variant, but Pima County Health Director Dr. Theresa Cullen says they’re working with the state department of health to look out for the variant around the state.
This week, the county and the city of Tucson began offering free vaccinations at the city’s convention center.
“Right now 70.9% of our population, which is over 12, is fully vaccinated. And 90.6%of our population, which is over 65, is fully vaccinated," Cullen said.
Cullen also says cases in the county showed a small downward trend, but she expects that to change as a result of the Thanksgiving holiday.
