The cost of oil has dropped, but Arizona's gas prices are still higher than average

The average price for a gallon of gas is down 2 cents per gallon from last week. Still, prices are 25 cents higher than where they were a month ago.

Arizona’s gas prices have also decreased slightly in the past week, now averaging about $3.79 a gallon,  according to AAA.

AAA spokesperson Aldo Vazquez says the price of a barrel of crude oil dropped to $68 after news of the COVID-19 omicron variant surfaced.

“For now the upward pricing pressure due to tight supply, and high demand seems to have abated and that will likely result in pump prices stabilizing," Vazquez said.

Vazquez added it’s still too early to know if the new variant omicron will cause prices to go lower in the long term. Arizona’s gas prices are still about 40 cents higher than the national average of $3.37.
