Arizona nonprofits see small increase in donations

Nonprofits across the country and around Arizona took part in Giving Tuesday this week, hoping to raise money after a series of targeted shopping days, including Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday.

The end of the year is often a pivotal time for nonprofits; national statistics show some groups get half of their annual revenue in the last two months of the year.

In Arizona, Jennifer Purcell says more nonprofits took part in Giving Tuesday this year than in the past, and that there’s been a big increase in communication between those groups and the public, trying to let supporters know about the day.

Purcell is senior vice president and director of development at the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits.

The Show spoke with her to learn if the increase in engagement led to an increase in giving and volunteerism.
