Man jumps from an airplane at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport during taxi to gate

An investigation is underway after an incident at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport on Saturday morning, where a man jumped out of a plane while it was taxiing to a gate.

Phoenix Fire Department spokesperson Todd Keller says he proceeded to run into Fire Station 19, which is located at the airport. The man was identified Saturday night as Daniel Ramirez, 30.

“This individual entered Station 19 and proceeded to lock himself inside one of the dormitories. Our firefighters were there immediately, they were talking to him, after a couple of minutes, they asked him to come out, he came out,” said Keller.

Ramirez was transported to a hospital with a lower leg injury. It is currently unclear why he jumped out of the plane or the extent of his injury.

The incident did not delay airport operations, Sky Harbor spokesperson Julie Rodriguez said.

A Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson referred an inquiry to local authorities. Phoenix police said late Saturday that Ramirez was booked on two felony counts of trespass.
