As the holidays near in neighboring Sonora, there are signs of a building fourth wave of COVID-19 cases.
In the last full week of November, there were nearly 1,800 new confirmed cases in Sonora, the largest number since mid-September, as the third wave was on its way down, and one of the largest weekly increases in months. That’s according to state and federal data trackedby analyst Luis Armando Moreno, who has been closely following the pandemic in the state since April 2020.
“This is troubling because we’re barely beginning the season of posadas,” he said, referring to regular get-togethers with friends and family in the leadup to Christmas that officials have cited as potential sites of coronavirus spread.
