There are a lot more ways for us to communicate with other people now than in the past, but are we using this new technology to lie to each other?
New research aims to build on a study from 2004, which looked at a variety of characteristics of different media that can predict how much people don’t tell the truth on those platforms. It found the most lies per social interaction happened over the phone, and the fewest over email.
A lot has clearly changed since then, so David Markowitz wanted to take another look at our interpersonal relationships. Markowitz is an assistant professor in the School of Journalism and Communication at the University of Oregon.
The Show spoke with him to learn what he found, in terms of what’s different now than 17 years ago.
