Even as the pandemic continues, Arizona’s economy has emerged as one of fastest states to bounce back from the depths of the nearly-overnight recession. But the key word continues to be "uncertainty" as new COVID-19 variants emerge and some states — including Arizona — lag behind the national average on the percentage of residents who are vaccinated.
Those challenges make it more difficult for economists to project what next year will look like.
On Dec. 8, Arizona State University's W.P. Carey School of Business will hold its annual economic forecast luncheon — which will feature former Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers and the university's own Lee McPheters.
The Show spoke with both Summers and McPheters, and started the conversation by asking the latter about the challenges of forecasting during a pandemic.
