The Maricopa Association of Governments Regional Council approved a plan Dec. 8 to try to deal with homelessness in the Valley.
The Pathways Home plan represents the first time local and tribal governments have come together on one regional approach. It calls for creating a regional governance model to determine how the different entities will work together.
The plan also deals with creating more safe housing options, such as 770 more temporary housing units or areas for shelter and 1,225 more permanent housing units for residents experiencing homelessness.
It addresses working with other disciplines — including health care, mental health treatment and substance use services — to address homelessness more holistically.
Amy St. Peter is the deputy executive director of MAG.
The Show spoke with her to learn about the significance of taking this regional approach and of having different entities working together.
