Arizona hospitals require federal help for staffing due to COVID-19

State health officials are seeking federal help for 14 Arizona hospitals dealing with the pandemic. The Federal Emergency Management Agency says it has been asked to provide staff to administer monoclonal antibodies at seven of the hospitals.

There are emergency requests to help with staffing for rural and metro hospitals. This comes as Gov. Ducey provided another $35 million in aid to extend the contracts of nurses.

An aide says money for the staffers would have run out by the end of the year had the funding not come.

Documents show the health department is asking FEMA to prioritize hospitals in Mohave County, which housed Kingman Regional Medical Center. It reported 41% of its patients have COVID-19.

FEMA Spokesperson Robert Barker says it anticipates fulfilling the requests by the end of the month.
