A documentary film entitled “Somebody’s Daughter” is designed to bring attention to the epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous women and was screened in Phoenix on Saturday evening at the Heard Museum.
“We have so many cold cases here on the reservation that we have no answers to,” said Rynalea Pena, Northern Cheyenne tribal leader, who was interviewed for the movie.
Its filmmaker, named Rain, wanted to bring attention to the alarming number of unsolved cases of missing and murdered Indigenous women across the U.S.
According to a 2018 report, Arizona had the third highest number of cases.
The filmmaker, state tribal government officials and U.S. Rep. Greg Stanton will be on hand for a panel discussion following the screening.
