Sonoran governor visits Arizona, touts investment opportunities

The governor of neighboring Sonora was in Phoenix over the weekend, touting cross-border investment.

During his visit, Gov. Alfonso Durazo met with representatives of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council and spoke about his administration’s ambitious infrastructure plans, according to a state release. Those include major highway projects, improvements to the maritime port in Guaymas, customs facility upgrades and other efforts leaders hope will make the state a logistics hub.

Durazo also highlighted plans to heavily promote and invest in tourism.

Billions of dollars worth of goods cross back and forth through Arizona-Sonora ports of entry every year, and last year Arizona exported nearly $7 billion worth of commodities to Mexico, the state’s most important trading partner, according to federal  data
