We know that the effects of COVID-19 can be relatively mild or extremely harsh, and that those who suffer from preexisting diseases or health conditions are more susceptible to serious cases and further health complications.
People who are diabetic fall into that latter category, and having diabetes can elevate the likelihood of having a breakthrough case of COVID-19.
Dr. Shad Marvasti is director of public health, prevention and health promotion at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix.
