Judge rules voters can have say in revising Arizona's $1.9 billion tax cut

A judge has ruled Arizona voters have the right to review and potentially override the $1.9 billion tax cut approved by the state Legislature earlier this year.

Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Katherine Cooper rejected arguments from the Arizona Free Enterprise Club, which claimed voters could not second-guess legislative matters involving funds.

While voters cannot limit the government’s ability to operate, Cooper ruled a referendum wouldn’t hamper the government because it would leave them with more money than it needs.

SB 1828 would impose a 2.5% tax cut on all brackets. Analysis of the bill shows those who make about $30,000 a year will only be saving about $11.

While those who make $1 million annually will save more than $7,300.
