Why one expert believes the James Webb Space Telescope will change our understanding of the universe

The James Webb Space Telescope is set to launch on Christmas morning.

The $10 billion instrument has been in development for more than a decade; once it’s in orbit, scientists expect to learn more about some of the oldest galaxies in the universe, among many other things.

Marcia Rieke is a regents professor at the University of Arizona and is the principal investigator for the Near Infrared Camera on the James Webb Space Telescope.

The Show spoke with her and asked how this telescope is different than some of its predecessors, especially the Hubble Space Telescope.
