The newly drawn congressional districts were released Wednesday and one Arizona Congressman has already announced that he will be running for his old job in a newly drawn district.
Democratic Congressman Tom O’Halleran has served two terms representing Arizona’s 1 st Congressional District covering much of eastern Arizona.
O’Halleran issued a news release on Thursday saying he would be running in the newly drawn CD2. That new district will still include part of his old district but also include sections of Yavapai County in central Arizona. The part of the state has had a stronger Republican turnout in previous elections.
All nine of Arizona’s congressional districts have been redrawn as a result of population shifts and growth reported from the 2020 census.
